Things to Do in Downtown Grand Lake
Kauffman House Museum
Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, this unique log cabin was built as a hotel in 1892. It continued to operate as a lodge until 1920 when the owner, Erza Kauffman, passed away. It is the only remaining log hotel in the county built in the 19th century. Tour the building to admire its unique architecture and learn about the original owner and his family.
Explore the Lake
While in downtown Grand Lake, you must take advantage of the town’s beautiful lake. Spend the day on the sandy shore of the Grand Lake beach, where visitors can kayak, swim, or just relax. Many businesses nearby offer boat rentals as well as kayak and paddleboards. Spend the day cruising on the lake or go fishing!
Snowmobile Through Trails or Down Main Street
While many people take advantage of Winter Park snowmobiling, Grand Lake is adjunct to nearly 130 miles of snowmobile trails in the Arapaho National Forest. Dubbed the “Snowmobiling Capital of Colorado,” Grand Lake has been named one of the Top 10 Snowmobiling Areas in the United States by America’s Best Online. The county also permits snowmobiling on certain streets in Grand County. If the road is coated with enough snow, you can cruise down Grand Lake’s Main Street!
