Western ski resorts swept the OnTheSnow rankings of the top 10 destinations for families and college students for the 2011 North American spring break season.
Rankings were compiled by OnTheSnow.com’s team of analysts, using “a sophisticated algorithm that scored the North American resorts on a variety of factors based on website’s traffic information, user reviews, popularity on the site, and years of snowfall data reported by the resorts.”
“These two lists combine millions of data points to answer the question of where to go for spring break that comes up for families and students each year,” said Chad Dyer, Mountain News Corp.’s global managing director. Mountain News operates OnTheSnow.com. A Nielsen audit in January 2011 showed OnTheSnow.com received 3.4 million unique visitors that month, making this site the world’s most visited.
Resorts ranked highest in the family index were chosen by using non-college traffic to resort pages, user rankings of family friendliness, average snow base depth, and average snowfall in March and April.
