We are all ready to begin enjoying the outdoor activities in Winter Park, but one thing to prepare for our afternoon thunder storms.
Here are a few tips for safety in the thunderstorm season:
It is usually best to start your activity early to mid afternoon but storms can come in the morning. Keep your eye on the sky when clouds start to come together, deepen & darker they are becoming a thunderstorm.
Your chances of getting stuck by lightening are slim, but if you are caught in a thunderstorm stay low, take off your back pack, squat and look for shelter. Stay away from tall trees or exposed high elevations. Check out the Red Cross Thunderstorm Safety Checklist which has suggestions for preparing for mountain thunderstorms, what to do during a thunderstorms, and what to do after the thunderstorm.
